Appearance

Vauncey is an aging man, worn but handsome, with a neatly trimmed salt-and-pepper beard and slightly unkempt hair. He has a magisterial aura about him, making him seem wise and fatherly and giving his often poor advice an unearned air of wisdom. Although he dresses more casually than in his youth as a jet-setter, he still wears a blazer and good dress shoes. He keeps a very precise gold pocket watch in the inner pocket of his blazer, in order to assess whether moments are being skimmed or misreported.

History

In another time, Vauncey Pringle was an eccentric billionaire famous for for his glamorous, dissolute lifestyle and improbable adventures, the likes of which could fill a book. As a young inventor, his fusion of practical occultism with cutting-edge technology led to the first economically practical perpetual-motion machines, and in time, other implausible conveniences. By the time Vauncey was an old man, the widespread use of his devices had let to substantial violations of hermetical principles and the laws of thermodynamics, attracting the intention of heavenly auditors. He was assessed substantial back taxes for these under-the-table dealings, with large portions of his fortune and history seized by the powers that be, and his future earnings garnished at a 70% rate for the next 311 trillion years. He was granted divinity in order to assist with the repayment of these debts. Although this did not seem to him to be much of a punishment, he neglected to say so.

Vauncey is now bound to the service of the powers he once flouted, and with most of his fortune taken and much of his illustrious past undone he has had to adopt a more modest lifestyle. His skill at finding loopholes in cosmic law is an asset in tracking down and collecting payments owed, such as the fees assessed to those crossing between the World Ash and the Void or the property taxes owed by privately-owned worlds and Chantries. Although he technically has no free time, he manages to spend quite a bit of his working hours indulging in leisure activity, He makes an effort to visit the family he is on good terms with when in the area, but his history of failed marriages, long absences and disjointed, contrafactual escapades have left his relationship with his husband, three wives, six daughters and three sons strained.
